WHAT is the digital switchover?
The digital TV switchover is the process of turning off the UK's analogue TV signal and replacing it with a digital signal.
Why is it happening?
The digital TV switchover is Government policy. It will mean that almost everyone will be able to receive digital TV through an aerial (Freeview). Digital TV also uses less broadcast space which means that after switchover, there will be more room for new services such as wireless broadband, local TV and High Definition Television (HDTV). To keep your TV service, you will need to convert your TVs to digital before your area’s switchover date.

Digital TV offers new ways to enjoy your TV service: Greater choice of TV channels New features such as on-screen listings, interactivity, audio description and subtitling for people with visual and audio impairments. Optional additional channels and services including premium channels(e.g movies, sports), broadband and telephony.
The UK digital switchover takes place at different stages across the country. When you switch depends on which transmitter group you are watching. Oxford switches on 14th September 2011 - this may affect some households in the MK region. If you lose pictures during this time, we recommend a 'retune' first and if that fails give us a call and we can come out on a free quote for you. London switches on 18th April 2012. From this date ALL remaining anologue services will cease to operate - this INCLUDES Virgin Cable system in all of the MK postcode If you are unsure which area you are covered by, then you can click on the blue link button, and enter your postcode for an answer.
How to re-tune

To find out how to re-tune your digital equipment, check your manufacturer’s instructions for details. Or see below for a typical sequence: Note: Most digital equipment, will keep your original recordings after running a re-tune. Check your instruction book for details.
Press ‘Menu’ on your remote control. (Some digital equipment, will ask you for a code. If you have not already changed it, the default code is usually 0000, or check your instruction book.)
From the Menu options on screen, select ‘Install’. Select ‘Auto Setup’* to re-tune your digital equipment, (not ‘add channels’). You may have to wait a couple of minutes for the re-tune to complete. *Also sometimes referred to as ‘Update’, ‘Rescan’, ‘Replace’, ‘Auto-Tuning’, ‘Channel Search’, ‘First Time Install’, or ‘Store Channels’.
If you do not re-tune your channels when advised to do so by Digital UK, you may lose some or all of your channels until you do re-tune. You should re-tune your digital equipment, every few months to check for any new channels.
